Check a post

What a check costs, in credits.

One credit is 1¢. The price depends on the kind of post and, for video, how long it runs. It does not depend on how many claims the post makes.

  • A text post

    25credits · 25¢

    A post, a reply or a thread.

  • An image post

    25credits · 25¢

A screenshot, chart or captioned photo.

  • A short video

    25credits · 25¢

Any video up to 5 minutes.

  • A 10-minute video

    50credits · 50¢

A news segment or an explainer.

  • A 60-minute video

    300credits · $3.00

A podcast, an interview or a speech.

  • A claim, checked again

    25credits · 25¢

    Run again against today’s sources.

  • A post already checked

    Freeno credits

    You open the existing check.

  • A post with nothing to check

    Freeno credits

No factual claims in it. The credits are returned.

$5 buys 500 credits. That covers:

20text or image posts
10or 10-minute videos
1or 60-minute video

Credits pay for the checking itself.

A check is real work: every claim is taken out of the post and verified against sources. Credits cover that work, and the result outlasts the person who paid for it.

Every claim is verified.

A check covers every claim the post makes. There is no cap, and a post with more claims costs the same.

Checked once, free after that.

The first person to ask pays for the check. Anyone who checks the same post later opens that check at no charge.

Published checks are open to all.

The checks Polygraph publishes can be read by anyone, without an account: the verdict, a short summary and the sources.

A subscription is the steady way to support that work. You choose a monthly amount, it arrives as credits with 15% more added, and each check you run is there for the next reader.

Questions.

What is a credit?

A credit is the unit Polygraph charges in. One credit is 1¢, so $1 buys 100 credits. Checking a text or image post costs 25 credits.

How do I know what a check will cost?

You see the price in credits before the check runs. It depends on the kind of post and, for video, its length: 25 credits for a text or image post, and 5 credits per started minute of video, with a minimum of 25 credits. The number of claims in the post does not change the price.

What if a post has already been checked?

It is free. You open the existing check and no credits are taken. Checking a claim again against today’s sources is a new check, and costs the same as a text post.

What happens if a check can’t be completed?

The credits are returned to your balance. That covers a check that fails and a post that turns out to have nothing to check, such as one with no factual claims in it.

Do credits expire?

Credits you buy never expire. Bonus credits that come with a one-time purchase expire after 12 months. Credits from a subscription roll over, bonus included.

Do I need a subscription?

No. You can add credits whenever you need them, starting at $5, and never subscribe.

What does a subscription pay for?

The same thing every credit pays for: the checks themselves. You choose a monthly amount, from $5, and it arrives as credits with 15% more added. A check you run is free for the next person who opens that post, so a subscription is a steady way to support fact-checking beyond your own reading.

Can I cancel a subscription?

Yes. A subscription is optional and runs month to month. The credits already in your account stay there and roll over.

Are these prices permanent?

No. These are introductory prices, in effect through Dec 31, 2026. Prices are expected to rise after that, and the new prices have not been set.
